ALL IT TAKES
IS
ONE BAD DAY
Amid this pandemic situation, where the whole of the human population is being told to stay at home & stay safe, we got to know that some other species are suffering due to the Human Greed and Selfishness. Yes! We are talking about bats. Even though bats haven’t yet been confirmed as the source of the novel coronavirus, there has been a rise in demands by people to kill or remove bats from human neighborhoods and other natural habitats they occupy around the world.
Bats have been considered as a storehouse of diseases due to their weakened immune response to a number of viruses. Because of which they can hold the viruses within their body without being sick. For this reason, they are linked to a few incidents of disease spillovers too. But does that imply that we should resolve to kill them to safeguard our interests? Even though there is no concrete evidence till now that bats are the culprits behind this pandemic, fear is being inculcated among the general public because of the misinformation that is being spread on social media. Hence, we, the Eco-Club of IISER Berhampur (Oasis), present to you a fact check and what would be a nice way to tackle the problem. Our aim is to stop people from spreading hatred towards any species. Finally, we conclude that harming the ecosystem, be it by deforestation or by killing any species, would just make the situation worse.
